Run to mark Thanksgiving in Cottonwood Heights

The Cottonwood Heights Parks and Recreation department will be holding its Thanksgiving Day 5K, marking 41 years of the holiday tradition.

The run will take place across a five-kilometer route that goes through the heart of Cottonwood Heights. The race will feature multiple waves to avoid crowding, with chip-timing to measure the fastest runners. Participants can also walk the distance and bring a dog or stroller for the second wave. The overall men’s and women’s winners, as well as the best in a range of age group categories, will receive special awards.

Following the race, there will be an after-party with refreshments, music, and a medal award ceremony. All participants will receive a bib containing the chip timer as well as a commemorative shirt and finisher’s medal. Road races and other athletic challenges often offer promotional products like shirts and trophies to help remember the event.

A dollar from each registration fee will go towards the Cottonwood Heights Parks & Recreation Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides support to athletic and recreation events and programming in the community. The annual race, which typically sells out, is timed to coincide with Thanksgiving each year, offering the chance to participate with family members and, as its slogan says, “Run first, gobble later.”

The 2025 Thanksgiving Day 5K will take place at the Cottonwood Heights Recreation Center on Thursday, November 27.
