Special event for girls in Cottonwood Heights

An event is planned in Cottonwood Heights designed for girls from ages 12-17.

The Girl & Her Backpack team will be the hosts for a hike to Lake Mary, which will give the girls a chance to build confidence, community, and leadership skills by interacting with each other and the outdoors.

Among the planned activities are sessions that will help participants build teams, and by doing so, develop leadership and communications skills. Outdoor activities are designed to promote accountability and confidence, and finally, group sessions with smaller numbers will give participants a chance to relax, reflect, and develop in ways meaningful to them personally.

There are 15 openings available for the hike, which is being kept deliberately small so each participant can focus on personal growth.

The trail to Lake Mary is 2.6 miles long and offers a chance to observe beautiful wildflowers. Areas for activities are found along the trail.

Parents will be able to drop-off and pick-up attendees at the same location, the Big Cottonwood Canyon Park & Ride at 3865 Big Cottonwood Canyon Road. Flyer printing can be used to create handouts for events like this.

Due to the pandemic, all participants will have their temperatures taken when they are dropped off; a no-touch thermometer will be used. All parents must sign a form stating their child has not shown symptoms of, or been exposed to, COVID-19 within a specified time.

The hike is set for July 10, from 10:00 am until 12:30 pm.
