More than 20 teams of area first responders will put their culinary skills to the test in the 14th annual Utah Firefighter Chili Cookoff in Sandy, near Cottonwood Heights next month.
Teams at competitive events such as this often turn to banner printing to draw the crowd's attention to their stall.
The contest will recognize the best chili and the best booth, but the big winner will be the University of Utah Health Burn Camp Programs. Funds raised from the cookoff will go toward initiatives that assist burn survivors in coping with the physical and emotional challenges of life in burn recovery. There are five camps for different age groups that offer a safe, comforting space that fosters healing.
The cookout contest will begin with an opening performance by the Emerald Society Pipes and Drums Band. The event is free to attend, but tickets must be purchased for chili tastings and beverages including beer, soda, and root beer floats.
In addition to sampling the many flavors of chili, there will be children’s games and crafts, the landing of a University of Utah AirMed helicopter as well as multiple fire equipment units for families to explore.
The Utah Firefighter Chili Cookoff will be held Saturday, October 10 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at America First Field Pavilion at 9256 South State Street in Sandy, near Cottonwood Heights.
