Winter sports lovers in the Cottonwood Heights area have a new destination—The Summit Lodge atop Hidden Peak, in Snowbird.
The new facility comprises 23,000 square feet and is situated at the top of the mountain, which gives visitors a 360-degree view of the surroundings. Bob Bonar, who is the resort's general manager, says he hopes the lodge will become a place where everyone, whether skiers, hikers, mountain bikers, or snowboarders, can relax.
The new facility features banquet space, a retail store, and a cafeteria, but snowboarders and skiers see it mostly as a spot to relax and look at the gorgeous views. Melissa McGibbins, who is a Snowbird regular, says the lodge is cool and fun, and adds character and depth to the mountain.
The Summit Lodge is the vision of Ted Johnson and Dick Bass, who originally founded Snowbird. It took nearly two years to build the relatively small lodge, because the site is so challenging. Bonar says the site is “very, very technical”, and it was tough to get all the concrete and other materials up the mountain.
The lodge is part of $35m in capital improvements ongoing at Snowbird for the current season. Weather permitting, the lodge is accessible via tram throughout the year.
Lodge management could create Brochures about the lodge, and make them available at local attractions where skiers and sports enthusiasts gather.Get a Free Quote for Brochures
