New Cottonwood Heights councilwoman turns heads

Tali Bruce was recently sworn in as a Cottonwood Heights city councilwoman, and showed her devotion to the community in an unusual way: she had the logo of the city shaved into the hair at the back of her head.

According to an article on the WTKR website, she showed off the hairdo just after she took the oath of office, saying she was a ‘Politician in the front, party in the back’. She continued by saying she wanted the community to know she is not an average politician.

Bruce was born and raised in Utah, attained all her education in the state, and has a degree in business management from Brigham Young University. A mother and step-mother, she believes in giving everyone a voice in their own government.

Others took the oath of office along with Bruce; Christine Mikell was also sworn in as a member of the city council, and Mike Peterson, who had served on the council, became the city's second mayor. Peterson said he was amazed by how emotional he felt.

However, Bruce and her haircut were the center of attention. Mayor Peterson said the cut was “pretty impressive,” adding that the new councilwoman is strong, opinionated, and decisive, and the city welcomes those qualities in its councilmembers.

In order to familiarize citizens with their representatives in situations like this, officials sometimes work with a brochure printing company to create a booklet that introduces new appointees.
