Two new office buildings, known as Cornerstone I and Cornerstone II, are now under construction in the Cottonwood Corporate Center in Cottonwood Heights.
Between them, the two the buildings will have more than 250,000 square feet of space, and cost approximately $80m. Construction should be complete in about a year’s time.
Construction, which slacked off during the recession, is rebounding as conditions improve. It has also been spurred by a lack of office space in the region. Cottonwood Heights' planning director, Brian Berndt, notes that all available spaces are being leased, and adds the new Cornerstone buildings are the type of projects that will add value to Cottonwood Heights.
The buildings are designed with exteriors of glass and red sandstone, while the interiors boast eucalyptus wood and weathered copper. A three-story lobby acts as a connector between the two buildings, and the striking design is not an accident, according to the developer, but is designed to make a “strong architectural impression”.
The buildings are sited on the last open section of land in the business park developed by Cottonwood Partners over approximately 20 years. Four buildings are already in use, housing high-tech companies and health insurance firms.
The developer might consider working with brochure printers to create a mailer for commercial real estate brokers to present to their clients who are looking for office space.
