Cottonwood Heights has reconfigured one of its intersections, and some drivers are not happy with the result.
The intersection at Union Boulevard and Highland Drive had only been reopened to drivers for a few days when some began expressing their frustration with it. Speaking to Fox13Now.com, one driver called it “dumb”, and said she hated it, particularly as she has to go through it four times daily. She wondered if it might be possible for the city to simply return it to its original state.
Previously, the intersection had three lanes in each direction. Now, there are only two lanes in each direction; the third has been changed into a left-turn lane. Unhappy drivers complain that the changes make it even harder to get through the area quickly. One driver said she appreciated the city's efforts, but she does not believe this change has reduced congestion.
Tim Tingey, the city manager, said he thinks the change will be a good one in the long term. Tingey said the new design is to help drivers who are turning left, particularly those traveling east. The project, which cost $5.5m, may appear to be finished, but there is more work to do, Tingey said. The city wants to stripe the new lanes, and sync the traffic signals.
Poster printing can be used to create signage to help in situations like this.
