An upcoming event promises to bring the holiday spirit to the Cottonwood Heights area.
The Utah Symphony Orchestra is once again presenting concerts in Abravanel Hall, and among those on the schedule is one that is sure to please, and make it worth the short trip from Cottonwood Heights: the Messiah Sing-In.
Kathleen Sykes, on behalf of the symphony, has developed a guide to the event. Some audience members have been attending for years, and made the Messiah Sing-In a tradition, while others will be attending for the first time. The concert is atypical, in that the audience is expected to sing along with the orchestra, rather than sitting and enjoying the music. Most people probably know the iconic “Hallelujah Chorus,” but they will be encouraged to sing all the major choral numbers.
Attendees should bring their own libretto, if they have a copy. If not, the symphony will have copies of the Bärenreiter edition, which they plan to use, available to purchase before the event. The audience will not have to wonder when they are supposed to join with the orchestra, as the conductor will give the signal for attendees to begin singing. Connor Gray Covington will be on the podium.
The event is scheduled for November 28 and 29, at 7:30 pm both evenings. Abravanel Hall is on West South Temple in Salt Lake City. Brochure printing can provide programs for events like this.
