Green waste collecting service officially available

Cottonwood Heights residents who want to have their green waste picked up now have that option available.

The program actually began March 19, but the Wasatch Front Waste and Recycling only officially announced it on April 23 and confirmed that it will continue until December 10. Using this program, residents can have their green waste (which includes yard waste and household organic products) picked up weekly.

Fees have risen 20% for those who wish to dump their trash in the landfill. In addition, Wasatch Front Waste composts the green waste, which provides mulch and compost for healthier flowers and gardens. Residents can purchase mulch and compost at the Salt Lake City and Trans Jordan landfills.

The green waste collection program is run for a fee, by subscription. The start-up fee is a non-refundable $60, which Wasatch Front Waste uses to buy and deliver the green carts to subscribers. There is a second fee of $114 per year, which runs from the date of sign up for a full 12 months. The fee will be split up into quarterly payments, and added to the city's regular satiation bills. Further information is available from Wasatch Front Waste.

City officials might work with brochure printers to create a mailer for the city's residents, describing the service and making sure they know it is now in place and they can subscribe immediately.
