The Cottonwood Heights Recreation Center (CHRC) will be the site of flag football this fall.
League play started August 29, and is a coed program. There was a spring league that enjoyed a great deal of support from the community; in fact, almost 60% of those who played earlier this year said they would like to have a fall season.
CHRC's program coordinator, Warren Hallmark, said the turnout last time was great, bringing out approximately 80 young people from the community, who were formed into eight teams.
Flag football is a noncontact sport that was known as ‘Touch and Tail Football’ when it was first played some time in the 1930s. The flag football played today developed about a decade after that, when military personnel played for fun.
Today, flag football teams of all sizes are emerging across the country, and the National Football League sponsors NFL Flag, a nationwide organization that allows kids of all ages to play the sport. The Youth Flag Football program at CHRC is an NFL Flag league, and both girls and boys in grades one through six are welcome to play. Games are played semiweekly at Bywater Park, and are open to the public.
CHRC officials could work with a banner printing company to create colorful Banners to hang outdoors at the various games. Since Banners are tough, they will last the entire season.Get a Free Quote for Banners
