A popular conference has been expanded in order to more effectively help people prepare for emergencies.
The inaugural Be Ready Utah Expo is taking the place of the Utah Prepare Conference and Expo. The new event expands on the older one by offering hands-on activities to help attendees learn, classes, booths for retailers, and booths offered by non-profit organizations on topics such as safety, health, and emergency preparedness. Partners sponsoring this event include Salt Lake County Emergency Services, the American Red Cross, and the Utah Division of Emergency Management.
Topics addressed will include how to create a family emergency plan, and how to use social media to keep updated on news and information in emergencies, including earthquakes, which can occur in Utah. There will be safety tips and facts about earthquakes available.
Various kinds of kits are helpful in an emergency, and the expo will offer information on the types needed, and what they should contain. It will also discuss how much and what food to save for emergencies.
Other topics include how to safely store water; how to prepare children for disasters; and how to rescue pets.
The expo starts at 2:00pm on March 13 and winds up at 6:00pm on March 14. It will be held at the Mountain America Exposition Center in Sandy, a short distance from Cottonwood Heights. Flyer printing can be used to create handouts to help attendees find specific vendors at events like this.
