CPR classes offered in Cottonwood Heights

Cottonwood Heights residents have an opportunity to learn CPR, thanks to the Unified Fire Department, which is offering free classes.

The department is calling the classes ‘Push to Survive’, which relates to the fact the instruction will feature the “push only” technique of CPR.

The department is urging residents to attend, since getting help quickly is critical, and response times in the area are not optimal. No matter where in Salt Lake County a person lives, it is likely they will have to wait from five to eight minutes from the time they call 911 until the time the first responders arrive on scene. Those minutes can be critical, since when a person's heart has stopped, each minute that passes without someone performing a proper compression on it decreases the chance of survival by 10%. People who know what to do can help save lives.

Classes begin June 1 and continue throughout the month. The dates are today, June 7, June 13, June 19, and June 25. Classes are slated for the Cottonwood Heights Unified Fire Station, located at 1790 Fort Union Boulevard. Each class is an hour long and runs from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

Fire department officials could work with a flyer printing company on a mailer for residents, describing the classes and inviting them to attend.
