Country music outlaw to appear near Cottonwood Heights

A mysterious country artist who never reveals his face is scheduled to perform in Sandy, a short distance from Cottonwood Heights. Poster printing is often used to successfully promote events like this.

Orville Peck is a country songwriter and recording artist known for his solid musicianship, baritone voice, and songs that tell the truth. Orville grew up in an itinerant lifestyle, and never appears without a fringed mask, which has become his signature.

He self-produced and dropped “Pony,” his debut album, in 2019, and signed with Columbia Records, releasing his EP, “Show Pony” on that label. The EP, which includes a duet with superstar Shania Twain, won critical praise immediately. The musician is also famous for his personal style, which has led him to collaborate with such fashion icons as Michael KORS, and Dior, among others.

Peck has developed a larger-than-life on-stage persona, thanks to the mask as well as his flashy “Nudie” suits, the rhinestone-crusted costumes worn by many country music singers. The suits and mask give him a theatrical flair like that of his early idols, Johnny Cash and Dolly Parton. However, it is his singing and song writing – induced by Gram Parsons, Townes Van Zandt, Loretta Lynn, and Parton herself – that have brought accolades from fans as diverse as Peck’s music.

A concert review says simply:

“This was a really fun night of great music!”

Orville Peck will be at the Sandy Amphitheater on Friday, July 23 at 7:00 pm. Doors open an hour earlier.
