Cottonwood Heights welcomes well-known grocer

Trader Joe's, the specialty food store, has opened a new location in Cottonwood Heights.

The opening was reportedly a festive occasion with flower leis, a steel drum band, and lots of eager shoppers on hand. The new store, which took over the space formerly a Fresh Market (Albertson's), is only the second Trader Joe's in Utah. The store comprises about 10,000 square feet, and is located on South 1300 East.

Shoppers were welcomed by Kelvyn Cullimore, Jr., the mayor of Cottonwood Heights, who officiated. Also offering a warm welcome were Dan Dasse, regional vice president of Trader Joe's; ‘Captain’ Daryl Fielding, the store manager; and the entire crew of employees.

Trader Joe's started in the Los Angeles region in 1958, and has grown to more than 430 locations in 39 states. The chain uses tropical décor in all its stores, but also seeks to build connections with the neighborhoods it serves by incorporating pictures and even paintings of local landmarks.

Mayor Cullimore notes that the chain is extremely community-oriented, and expressed his delight that it has chosen to open a store in Cottonwood Heights, since it will draw customers from all over the region.

Trader Joe's could work with a flyer printing company to create a handout for distribution near the store, listing specials and limited-time offers at that location.
