Cottonwood Heights wants nominations

Cottonwood Heights officials would like to hear from residents about who has the most beautiful yard in town.

Cottonwood Heights is getting ready to consider nominations for its Beautification/Landscaping Awards, and is encouraging residents to nominate the properties they think are helping to keep the city a beautiful community in which to live, work, and play.

In fact, the Neighborhood Beautification Awards Program was established specifically to reward and recognize city residents, as well as business and property owners, who improve the appearance of their proprieties with beautiful landscaping and other changes.

The nominees must be within the Cottonwood Heights city limits, but can include any property therein. No anonymous nominations will be accepted, and there will be one residence selected as a winner from each of the city's four districts. There will be a single commercial winner, which the mayor will select, while the residential properties will be selected by city council members, based on the property's location within the district. The criterion for judging is the aesthetic appearance of the property that is visible from the street.

The City Council will present Certificates of Recognition to all winners at a meeting in September where the mayor will be present. Home Depot will also present prizes. Pictures of all winners will be featured on the Cottonwood Heights website. Banner printing can be used to create decorations for special events like this.

Nominations, which have to be received by August 23, are being made online.
