Cottonwood Heights resolves energy goal

The Cottonwood Heights City Council recently passed an ambitious resolution, setting a target of providing city operations using only 100% renewable energy in three years’ time. This resolution passed unanimously, according to an article in the Cottonwood Heights Journal.

The resolution states that Cottonwood Heights:

“shall work collaboratively with Rocky Mountain Power to continue to seek mutually beneficial, financially feasible methods to increase energy efficiency and the utilization by and within the City of renewable energy."

A number of reasons were cited for the alteration in policy. One is the requirement to help in the effort of improving the quality of air in Utah; another is to help protect the local environment. A third is that by protecting the environment and the area's natural resources, local recreational activities will be protected as well, and they are a significant part of the city's economy.

Tali Bruce, a member of the city council, said she felt such pride in the city for taking steps to ensure the air is clean and the environment livable for everyone. She went on to encourage each and every city to focus its own sights on running on clean energy only by 2032, saying true change happens locally. Officials considering issues like this can use flyer printing to create an informative newsletter for residents.

Cottonwood Heights joins three other Utah cities, Park City, Moab, and Salt Lake City, in setting the goal of moving to renewable energy.
