In advance of this year’s national Arbor Day, Cottonwood Heights has recently been named a 2024 Tree City USA, recognizing the community’s dedication to planting and nurturing trees.
The distinction has been provided by the Arbor Day Foundation, a world non-profit organization committed to planting and promoting a love for trees. The organization and its supporters have helped plant more than half a billion trees in the communities and forests of 60 countries in the past 53 years.
The foundation’s Tree City USA project highlights towns and cities that embrace urban forestry, which can provide a range of benefits including health and environmental improvements.
Trees can limit rainwater runoff, filter impurities from the air, provide cover for cooling and lower energy costs, and improve human mental and physical well-being.
In addition to spending at least $2 per capita on trees, a community must also take part in an Arbor Day celebration in order to be named as a Tree City USA. In Cottonwood Heights, the celebration includes a Spring Sapling sale for those who wish to get involved by planting their own trees. Having a good logo design can be of benefit to towns in their promotion of events such as this.
Cottonwoods Heights residents have the opportunity to purchase a variety of young trees at the Arbor Day celebration. It will be held on April 26, 2025 from 9 am to 2 pm at City Hall, 22775 Bengal Boulevard.
