Cottonwood Heights officials are getting ready for a big Easter weekend, with events planned for families, children, and teens.
The event has grown in size since its inception, and as many as 2,500 people are expected to take part this year. The community’s enthusiasm means the celebration will become a permanent part of the city’s calendar.
Things get rolling on the Friday evening with Teen Night. Held at the ice skating rink at the Cottonwood Heights Recreation Center, young people have the opportunity to socialize and skate from 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm. At the end of the evening, candy will be tossed onto the ice. Those taking part in the “candy grab” will remove their skates, slide onto the ice, and pick up as much candy as possible.
The following day brings the traditional Easter egg hunt, which takes place in Butler Park. The hunters are divided into groups by age. Although the official start time is 10:00 am, the city’s events coordinator, Ann Eatchel, encourages people to come earlier. The event will have face painting for children, and the Easter Bunny will make an appearance. All the activities during the weekend, from Teen Night to the egg hunt, are free.
Teen Night is March 30, and the Easter egg hunt is the next day, March 31.
