As the country braces itself for the upcoming winter, Cottonwood Heights officials recently issued guidelines for residents that will help dealing with snow easier for everyone.
First, residents are asked to remove any overhanging branches from their trees, as well as keeping the trees trimmed back from the road, so that snowplows do not have to maneuver around them. According to the city codes, residents are required to keep their trees trimmed so that there is a clearance of at least 13.5 feet between the lowest branches and the road surface. Officials remind everyone that when a snowplow does not have a clear path, it's impossible for the driver to push snow entirely off the surface.
In addition, trees that overhang the road can damage city equipment, incurring significant expense in order to make repairs.
Residents are also asked to help keep the sides of the roads clear by bringing in their garbage cans as soon as possible, particularity after a storm. If the cans are buried, the drivers may not see them, or will have to try and steer around them.
Officials wanted to remind drivers that there is no street parking immediately before, during, or after a storm, and parked vehicles could cause a delay in clearing the streets. Officials dealing with issues like this could use flyer printing to reach residents with the necessary information.
Finally, officials went on to thank everyone for their assistance with the job of snow removal.
