School officials and members of the public gathered for a groundbreaking ceremony in mid-April, as the city got ready to rebuild Butler Elementary school.
The ceremony included a formal groundbreaking, as well as an open house where residents could see plans for the new school. The new facility was designed with input from community members, as well as students.
The new school's construction is being financed by proceeds from a $250m bond that voters in the Canyons School District first approved in 2010.
Construction is slated to start May 1. The new school will be sited on the same campus as the current school, and will be rebuilt adjacent to that facility. The construction should be finished in time for the Fall 2016 school year.
The Butler rebuild project is only one in a series that will be funded by the bond. Other projects currently underway include a rebuild of Mount Jordan Middle school, which should be finished in the fall of this year; a rebuilding of Midvale Middle school, with completion scheduled for Fall 2017; a rebuild of Alta View Elementary school, with completion expected in Fall 2017; and a renovation of Indian Hills, with completion likely by Fall 2018.
School district officials could work with a postcard printing company to create a card to mail to voters, updating them on the projects.
