Annual contest returns to Cottonwood Heights

Once again, it is time for a popular contest to welcome the holidays.

Cottonwood Heights has announced the upcoming “Light the Heights” holiday decorating contest, as well as publishing the rules for the 2020 event.

The contest is free, and any resident or business in Cottonwood Heights is eligible to enter. Only exterior decorations will be judged, including those in windows that can be seen from the street. Judges will base their decisions on “curb appeal” as seen from the exterior front of the business or home. Judges will not assess back or side yards, because they will not enter the lot.

By entering, participants agree they will comply with the rules of the contest, including that the city may place images of their decorations on the social media platforms it uses, as well as in its newsletter, and on the official webpage, and that they will not be paid. They also agree to allow their address to be published on a map for viewing holiday decorations. In addition, Cottonwood Heights employees; members of the various city councils, commissions, and committees; vendors who have contracts with the city; and their family members are not eligible to take part. Often, it can help to convey rules like these through flyer and poster printing.

Applications will be accepted from 9:00 am tomorrow November 30, through 5:00 pm on December 10. Judging will take place on December 11, 12, and 14, with the winners announced December 15. Complete information is on the city's website.
