New sirens for weather alerts installed in The Colony

The Colony recently upgraded its network of emergency alerts with five new warning sirens for the outdoors. Four of these are replacement units and one is a new unit.

These upgrades will provide quicker activation, stronger coverage, and better communication during weather considered dangerous. These include tornados, wind speeds of over 70 miles per hour, and hail at least 1.25 to 1.5 inches wide.

The newest of the sirens is at the Athletic Club in The Colony near Page Road and Memorial Drive. It expands coverage in one of the fastest growing areas in the city. The four other sirens replace models that had been serving the city for over 20 years. This update is part of the safety strategy of the city and is part of an increase in investment in emergency infrastructure.

These new models of sirens cover a larger area than the previous version, meaning fewer units can reach more people. In addition, real-time data from the National Weather Service will automatically activate the sirens.

The Colony Economic Development Corporation funded two of the units in important entertainment and retail zones, which are considered areas where large crowds are common and such warnings are particularly necessary.

Flyer printing can be used to provide more information about such new equipment and its benefits for residents.
