McKinney to install upgrades to IT infrastructure
The city of McKinney boasts a current population of around 150,000 and, with its new distinction as Money magazine’s Best Place to Live in America, it is hopeful that the population could grow even higher. With this in mind, the city has decided to take steps to ensure its IT services will keep pace with the growth.
Working with Dell, end-to-end solutions will be put in place to help optimize their IT services, make managing databases simpler, and help the current system become more functional. This will allow the city to offer up-to-date applications to both city employees and residents.
McKinney’s IT department currently runs around 200 different applications, including ones that are vital for the police and fire services. Dell will merge the upgrades into the current system, allowing for better monitoring of the system and easier troubleshooting of problems. It will also free up time for more application development.
One area where the city would like to make improvements is in its ability to offer mobile services to city residents. An example of this would be an application that would allow people to pay their bills or taxes using their mobile device, such as an iPad or smartphone.
Making it possible for people to access city services through a mobile device can prove to be very convenient.
