Changes made to McKinneys mobile food vendor rules
If things go as planned, food trucks may become a more common site in McKinney.
The city council has approved changes to the current zoning ordinance that allows for businesses to host food truck on their properties. The new ordinances define what a food truck is, as well as when and where they will be allowed to set up shop.
Mobile vendors will be considered ‘food trucks’ if they sell food for at least two half-hour periods, or a single one hour spell, in a day. They will be permitted to open between 8:00 am and 10:00 pm every day, and they will be allowed on public property or in front of an existing restaurant or other food service provider only if they have written permission from the owner. They must be at least 1,000 feet apart, and their numbers permitted per property will be based upon their size.
Signage is permitted provided that it is attached to the vehicle, and this can be arranged by a printing company. Flyer printing firms will be able to print other promotional items that may be needed.
The City Planning Director notes that the changes may be small, but they are part of a gradual process that seeks to avoid hasty decisions and make sure all rules are given time to take effect.
