Grand Prairie celebrates Lunar New Year 2018

Lunar New Year 2018 will soon be celebrated in Grand Prarie, heralding the Year of the Dog.

The festival will be over two weekends in mid-February, with Asia Times Square holding the festivities for the 11th year.

Kechi Okwuchi, one of 2017 America’s Got Talent finalists, will help ring in the new lunar year. Family and friends will be taking pictures for Lunar New Year Holiday Cards.

Over 80 vendors and Asia Times Square tenants will be selling authentic Southeast Asian art and crafts, street food, jewelry, drinks, and accessories, among other items. There will be plenty of candles, fruits, jams, and treats for sale in the vendor booths, and the venue will have a fresh flower market as per Lunar New Year tradition.

From 1:00 to 2:00 pm, guests can play free games and win prizes. Non-profit organizations will be hosting Vietnamese Bingo at 2:00 pm, and carnival games will be available for $1 per ticket. Firecrackers, martial arts demos, lion and dragon dances will occur at three different times during the day. Karaoke will be from 4:00 to 5:00 pm with prizes for every singer.

Lunar New Year 2018 will be the weekend of February 9, 10, 11, and again on February 16, 17 and 18 at Asia Times Square, 2615 W. Pioneer Parkway, Grand Prairie.
