The Uptown Theater in Grand Prairie is hosting a concert featuring the cover bands ZZ Tex and Stevie Ray’s Vault.
ZZ Tex is a tribute band of ZZ Top, creator of hits like “Sharp Dressed Man.” The band is led by guitarists and vocalists Freddie Z and Kraig Parker. Rounding out the band is drummer Sharon Simmons.
Stevie Ray’s Vault is actually composed of the same musicians as ZZ Tex, albeit with an outfit swap, featuring Freddie Z fulfilling the role of the legendary Stevie Ray Vaughan, whose hits include “Pride and Joy.”
Both ZZ Top and Stevie Ray Vaughan are from Texas and helped establish a revival of blues-rock in the mid-1980s. Houston-based ZZ Top has established a following since the early 1970s. Composed of Billy Gibbons, Dusty Hill, and Frank Beard, the trio took influence from artists such as John Lee Hooker and Muddy Waters. With the release of their 1983 album Eliminator, ZZ Top was launched to superstardom, using synth and disco elements in their music to become breakout pop stars.
Concerts like this may choose to use flyer printing to create low-cost promotional material in the community.
Texas Legends Tribute featuring ZZ Tex and Stevie Ray’s Vault is happening on Friday, July 31, with doors open at 6:30 pm and the concert at 7:30 pm, at the Uptown Theater at 120 Main Street in Grand Prairie.
