This year, the City of Grand Prairie Parks, Arts and Recreation Department is combining two annual events.
Over 7,000 people will be turning out for the annual Cultures of Rotary and the Flight of the Monarch. EpicFest will be a festival of arts, culture and nature. The two-day event will be an introduction to our new Epic Park.
The Rotary International Stage will showcase selected multicultural performances. The Friday night headliners will be Kumbia Kings. Many of the traditional annual Monarch activities such as release of the Monarch butterflies will be returning. The event will also have an educational component consisting of interactive displays and games.
During the same time, The Asian Times Square will be hosting its annual Mid-Autumn Festival – a moon celebration. The highlights there will be the Children’s Lantern Decoration Contest, parade, a daily Lion Dance, and carnival games. There will be a rock climbing wall, basketball games, and face painting.
The Make-a-lantern-with-a-Texas-Theme contest will garner an artist $200. The winner may wish to take pictures of their lantern to nearby Stationery printers to get some personal items made. Multicultural performance will begin every evening at 6:00 pm.
EpicFest is scheduled for Friday, September 21 and Saturday, September 22 at EpicCentral Park, 2970 Epic Place.
The Mid-Autumn Festival will be from 6:00 pm until 11:00 pm September 21 through 23 at Asian Times Square parking lot at 2615-2625 West Pioneer Parkway.
