The middle of January will be the time for Galveston’s annual Chili Quest. This will be the eighth year for the Yaga-sponsored festival. Some of the proceeds from the event will once again go to the Ronald McDonald House of Galveston.
The highlight of the event will be the Chili Cook-off. Chili teams will be whipping up their special chili recipes and offering samples to festival guests. Those people wishing to participate in the eating portion of the event must purchase chili-tasting cups. The tasting will last for three hours.
The first three places in the Regular Chili category and in the Exotic Chili category will receive trophies. The Showmanship winner will receive a trophy, too. The Jackpot Margarita Contest winner will get a trophy, cash and a Tsunami Drink Menu Item. Medals in this category will go to the second and third place winners. The first place winner of the Washer Pitching Tournament will receive a trophy, and the second and third place winners will get medals.
The event will also have a Beach 5K Fun-Run. Zany costumes and outlandish team uniforms are almost mandatory.
Everyone will want to mark their Calendars for January 21. The Cook-off will start at noon at the Strand and 23rd Street in Downtown Galveston. The 5K Fun/Run will get going at 7:30 am at 28th and Seawall.
