Galveston fest combines surfing and art

La Izquierda Fest will make its return to Galveston Island this May, looking to combine art, music, and the spirit of surfing.

Also known as Izzy Fest, La Izquierda aspires to capture the spirit of Texas’s coastline. There will be two days of live music, with genres ranging from funk and surf rock to genre-bending indie sounds. Featured artists include Alex Mass of The Black Angels, Louisiana Surf Department, and The Dead Canyon Family Reunion. There will also be an after party hosted by Cassette Tape and Howard & the Nosebleeds.

Beyond the music, one of the main attractions will be a longboard surfing contest. Surfers can enter into one of four divisions, and will surf two heats, with the top two scoring waves in each heat contributing to their final score. The top finishers in the Men’s and Women’s division will conclude the weekend with one final surf.

The local arts scenes and small businesses will be represented through a vendor’s market, featuring handmade art and gift items. There will also be food and drink offered by local restaurants and food trucks. Vendors at festivals often offer Business Cards or promotional items to help make lasting connections with customers.

The 2026 edition of the La Izquierda Surf and Music Festival will take place on May 1 and 2 at Beach Central in Galveston.
