The OkraFest Gala, dubbed the Met Gala of Galveston, is returning for its 12th year this August.
Benefiting the Galvestone farmers’ market Groundswell, the gala is a celebration of food and fashion, with proceeds going towards education, food access, and community health.
This year, the theme is Garden Galactica. Attendees are invited to wear their best cosmic, produce-inspired attire and enter the OkraWear competition with custom headwear or accessories. In order to be eligible to win a prize, however, okra must be incorporated somewhere in their fashion.
There are both general and VIP admission tickets and tables available for purchase. General admission includes a dinner made with fresh ingredients from local farms, an open bar, and live music. VIP admission includes all general admission benefits, as well as a separate VIP event with an oyster bar prior to the official gala opening, a commemorative pin, and limited edition poster, the “Galactica” specialty cocktail, and first access to the raffle.
Events like this often rely on poster printing from local shops in order to advertise around the community.
The OkraFest Gala will be held on Saturday, August 15 at the Historic Galveston Water and Electric Light Community Center. There will be a VIP hour from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm and doors will open to the general public at 7:00 pm.
