Galveston charitable walk to celebrate anniversary

The Market Mile fundraising walk will mark its 5th annual edition this April, challenging local runners and walkers to contribute to the Galveston community.

Participants can choose their own pace, between a relaxing “Neighborhood Stroll” and a “Fun Run” for those looking to pick up the pace. Visitors can also take the “Cheer & Swag” path to start the party early at the finish line. Runners and walkers can take part as a group, with the largest team winning the “Biggest Flock” award. The most eye-catching outfits will receive the Berry Best Dressed award.

The mile-long route will end in a post-race party at Galveston’s Own Farmers’ Market. The event will include live music and refreshments, and was organized by Market Mile vendors in honor of avid runner David Sabot. All registered participants will receive a commemorative bib, shirt, and enamel pin.

Proceeds from funds raised will go towards the Groundswell Food Access Program, including voucher programs to allow seniors and those in need to obtain fresh food from the market. Runs, walks and other charitable athletic events often use banner printing and give speeches to help recognize sponsors, volunteers, and other contributors.

The 2026 edition of the Market Mile run will take place on the morning of Sunday, April 12, beginning and ending at Galveston’s Own Farmers’ Market.
