Galveston Island Oktoberfest will return this year toward the end of October.
The First Lutheran Church of Galveston will host its 40th free community-oriented Galveston Island October Fest featuring food, music, arts, crafts, rides for the children and games.
The fun will begin with the tapping of the keg from 5 pm to 10 pm on the 21st. Polka entertainment for the three days will include The Tuba Miesters, The Jody Mikula Band, and The New Braunfels Gemischter Chor Harmonie. Local favorites such as the Line-Up Band, Midlife Crisis Band and Fanfare! will also be returning.
Winners of the Cake Wheel activity will receive cakes made by the congregation, and on Saturday costumed participants in the Chicken Dance contest will be attempting to impress the audience to win prizes. The Stein Holding contest will be held at the merchandise booth at 6:30 pm.
Contest winners at events like these often like to use photos of themselves in costume and ask Print shops to make Copies duplicates for family and friends.
Also, on Saturday a Kids Zone will feature inflatables including two Meltdowns, mechanical bull, Adrenaline Rush, Hippo Chow, bounce house, Safari for Toddlers, Basketball Challenge, and Homerun Derby.
Traditional German fare such as handmade sausage, knackwurst, brats, pretzels, and strudel will be available, and a special German food truck will have a kids’ menu.
Galveston Island Oktoberfest will be October 21st through the 22nd in the courtyard between the church and Lyceum of Galveston, 2401 Winne St.
