Galveston’s Own Farmers’ Market will be holding its first Market Mile fun run toward the end of April.
Walkers and runners are invited to take leisurely strolls or sprint through the neighborhood, stopping to read and enjoy Galveston Unscripted notices at notable historical spots.
Adult registration will be $25 and kids from three years old to 15 can run for $15. Swag will include a racing bib and T-shirt sporting the Inaugural Market Mile graphic design, as well as entry to the post-race party. The first 100 registrants will receive special Market Mile enamel pins.
Those neighbors living between Broadway and 33rd, and between Harborside and 25th, can participate for free and receive bibs and admission to the post-race party. They cannot, however, get event shirts unless they register for the $25 adult entry.
The Market Mile will begin at the corner of 25th and Market streets, proceeding west for three blocks and turning south onto 28th. Runners will go 10 blocks, turn east for two blocks, and return north passed Ball Avenue, Winnie, and Church Streets. The course will take a right at the Post Office and right again on 25th street returning runners to the starting line.
Race packets may be picked up Thursday, April 21 from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Galveston Island Running Company, 518 23rd Street.
GOFM’s Market Mile will take place Sunday, April 24 beginning at 9:00 am.
