For the 48th year, Galveston Historical Foundation will be presenting Dickens on the Strand, an annual 19th-Century Victorian London holiday festival.
The three-day event will offer parades, strolling carolers, bagpipers, roving musicians, jugglers, and continuous entertainment across four Strand stages.
Guests costumed in period attire may get into the festival for half price. Attendees who go to events like this in costume often get their pictures taken. Some take the photos to local Stationery printers to have Holiday Cards or personal notecards printed.
Peddlers costumed in vintage Dickensian era finery will sell items such as holiday drinks and food from rolling carts and Victorian-themed jewelry, clothing, holiday decorations, crafts, and gifts from street stalls.
New this year, a special Dickens After Dark will be from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm on December 3 and 4. Ticket ($40) holders will get directions to a private location where they will see unique performances, enjoy special beverages, and take part in revelry. Other new activities will be Shopkeepers Skills Village and Tiny Tim’s Play Land.
Holiday Handbell Concerts at 5:30 pm, 7:00 pm, and 8:30 pm will take place at 1859 St. Joseph’s Church on December 3. Admission will be $20.
Tall Ship Elissa will welcome guests for appetizers and cocktails from 4:30 pm until 6:30 pm on December 4. Tickets are $60.
Dickens on the Strand will take place December 3 through 5 from 10:00 am until 9:00 pm at 2300 Strand.
