Galveston to run the Sand Crab

Galveston runners will be securing flashlights and head lamps for the Galveston Sand Crab 5k & 10K Nighttime Beach Run coming in mid-August.

The event will feature a Kids’ Mile, along with the 5K and 10K runs, and will take place completely on sand.

All races, including the Kids’ Mile, will be chipped timed and all finishers will receive custom-made finisher medals sporting the event Logo Design. Proceeds will go to the Galveston Island Human Society.

The Kids’ Mile run will be an out-and-back and parents may accompany the runners. The $25 fees will include water, sports drinks and cotton tees sporting the event’s blue and gold graphic design. Parents can run for free.

All three races will have cut off times. The Kids’ Mile will be 30 minutes, and the other two will be two hours. That amounts to 38.42 minutes per mile in the 5K and 19.21 minutes per mile for the 10 K. Walkers are invited to participate if they can maintain that speed. Participants in the 10K must get to the turnaround (3.1 miles) within 60 minutes.

Music and beverages will be waiting for finishers.

The runs will begin and finish in Apfel Park, 1923 Boddeker Road at East Beach on August 15. The children’s event will begin at 8:00 pm, and the adult races get underway at 8:30 pm.
