The Galveston Sand Crab 5k/10k Kids’ Beach Mile will be coming later in August. The courses for all three races will be run completely on sand at night. All races are chip-timed, including the kids’ event.
The races will be out and back courses starting and finishing at Apfel Park’s East Beach. LED lights will illuminate the course and the Kids’ Beach Mile will have adults and marshals accompanying the kids along the route.
The Kids’ Mile, for participants age 12 and under, will be the first race and will start at 8:00 pm. All runners will receive finisher medals and cotton tees featuring the event’s graphic design. Awards will go to the top three girl and boy finishers. Runners will get a sports drink and water after the race. Entry fees will be $25 on race day.
Entry fees for the 5k will be $65 on race day and the 10k fees will be $70 on race day. Both the 5k and the 10k will start at 8:30 pm and are walker friendly. However, they both will have a two-hour cut off. All runners must be equipped with head lamps or flash lights. Water and a sports drink will be available during both runs.
There will be a post-race party with music and beverages.
The Galveston Sand Crab 5k and 10k Nighttime Beach Run will be Saturday, August 17 at East Beach in Aptel Park, 1923 Bodddeker Road.
