The 11th Wild Texas Galveston Island Shrimp Festival is slated for late September.
The first morning will get things rolling with the Galveston Island Shrimp Festival Official 5K /Fun Run, also known as the Shrimp Scamper, at 9:00 am at 28th and Seawall. Participants will receive a T-shirt sporting the event’s graphic design and three free beverages.
Vendors will begin selling their food and merchandise at 10:00 am.
Teams entered in the Shrimp Gumbo Cook-Off will be divided into professional and amateur categories. The Amateur division will be further divided into five subcategories including Shrimp Gumbo (all teams enter this) and optional categories such as Open Chef’s Choice, Shrimp Burger Patty and Blue Chair Bay Jackpot Rum Punch Champion. All teams will be eligible for the Team Showmanship award. The Gumbo winning team will receive $1000.
At noon, guests will purchase their official Gumbo Stroll Tasting cups sporting the event Logo Design and begin the Gumbo Stroll. For four hours attendees may walk around sampling the contestants’ shrimp gumbo. Guests will vote for their favorite team for the Team Showmanship award.
Saengerfest Park will have the Chad Cooke Band performing starting at 1:00 pm.The Lil’ Shrimps Parade will begin 3:00 pm. The Public Gumbo Tasting will end at 4:00 pm with the award ceremony beginning at 6:00 pm.
The Shrimp Festival will wind down around 9:00 pm. The festival will be September 26 and 27th in Saengerfest Park at 23rd and Strand.Get a Free Quote for Logo Design
