For those in Galveston who enjoy gastric entertainment, the 2016 4th Annual Old Smokey Throwdown will be coming to town early in August.
This will be an outdoor cook-off in which 40 teams will be competing for cooking honors. The public will be judging the event.
All cooking will be done on stock Old Smokey cookers. Categories will be ‘Anything on a Stick’, ‘Chicken Wings’, and ‘Bacon Open’. The first category will require anything edible that can be put on a stick. The second category will be limited to wings and drumettes. Any food item will be accepted in the last category as long as it uses bacon.
Spectators may want to bring Banners to encourage their favorite cooks. Those teams that come in first, second, and third in each category will receive trophies.
The city will be roping off 21st Street from Sealy to Winnie and Ball Street from 20th to 21st from 8:00 am until 8:00 pm in downtown Galveston this Saturday, July 16, for the cook-off.
Food will be available as soon as the teams submit it to the designated turn-in point. Meals from the ‘Anything on a Stick’ category must be turned in from 12:30 pm until 12:45 pm. Chicken wings will be turned in from 2:20 pm until 2:30 pm, and bacon goodies must be at the turn-in area from 3:50 pm until 4:00 pm.Get a Free Quote for Banners
