The Galveston Sand Crab 5k and 10k will be a nighttime beach run coming in a couple weeks. There will be a Kid Mile also.
The runs will be all on sand. Participants can make use of the two water and sports drinks stops and listen to the live music along the course. The course will be lit using led lights and runners must bring head lamps or flashlights.
All runners including the kids participating in the Kid Mile will receive custom finisher medals. Kids will also receive cotton T-Shirts with the event’s graphic design printed on the front. All races will be out and backs. The 5K runners will turn around at the 1.55-mile marker and the 10k at the 3.1. Both races will be walker friendly but they both have a cut off time at two hours.
The Kid’s Mile will be for children under the age of 13. Parents are encouraged to run with the kids for safety. This race will be chipped timed and will have a 30-minute time limit.
Awards will be given to overall first female and male finishers, first female and male masters and in seven age categories.
This year’s Sand Crab Run will begin and end in Apfel Park on East Beach, 1923 Boddeker, on Saturday, August 17th. Kids will line up and begin their race at 8:00 pm. The 5k and 10 k races will begin at 8:30 pm.
