Tickets are on sale now for Mardi Gras! This will be the 108th year for the Galveston celebration, which is coming at the end of February.
Local artists, former Galveston artist residents, and Galveston lovers have entered Posters in the Yaga’s Entertainment, Inc’s Official Poster Contest. The winner will receive $1,000 and have his or her commemorative entry taken to local Print shops for poster printing.
The fun will begin early on event day as the Jolly Jester Jaunt 5K kicks off at 11:00 am under the Mardi Gras! Arch on Mechanic and 24th Streets. Runners will receive Super Fun Festival T-Shirts emblazed with the festival’s graphic design when they register.
Beads, floats and drivers will be part of the eighteen parades that are scheduled for the two-weekend event. The first evening will begin with the Pardy Gras! Procession. A large brass band will lead special guests and the George P. Mitchell award honoree to the award ceremony. After the presentation, the parade makes its way back through town in what will be called the George P. Mitchell Mardi Gras Award Parade. It will begin at 7:00 pm.
An hour later, the 3rd annual Funky Uptown Umbrella Brigade will take to downtown streets. At 10:00 pm, the official Mardi Gras! Galveston Parade will end the evening with a parade through the Strand District.
Mardi Gras! Galveston will be February 22 through 24, and March 1 and 2 in historic downtown Galveston.
