In a couple of weeks, the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, in partnership with the Del Papa Distributing Company, will be hosting the island’s 35th Oktoberfest.
The weekend will feature everything German, from music, refreshments, and food to activities and crafts. Admission will be free, and German attire is encouraged.
A traditional ‘Biergarten’ will offer German libations. Authentic German food such all the wursts – smoked sausage, knockwurst, and bratwurst – and traditional side dishes will also be available. ‘Wurstabendessen’, which is an entire traditional German dinner, will be available for purchase. Helmut’s strudel and soft pretzels will be prepared on-site. Members of the Lutheran Church will be selling German desserts from recipes that have been handed down from generation to generation.
Vendors will be selling holiday gift items, as well as handmade arts and crafts. Both guests and artisans will want to get their digital Business Cards updated before the event to exchange information for custom ordering.
Valina Polka and Das Ist Lustig will be performing on the Family Stage. Other performances will include German Polka dancers, the Accordion Cowboy, Midlife Crisis, the Tubameisters, and the children’s choir.
Oktoberfest will be October 21 and 22 in the streets and surrounding area of the First Lutheran Church, 24th and Winnie Avenues, Galveston. On the Friday, the event will run from 5:00 pm to 11:00 pm, and Saturday hours will be 11:00 am until 11:00 pm.
