Galveston readies for countys annual fair and rodeo

The Galveston County Fair and Rodeo will start in just a few days.

A Live Stock Show and Seafood cook–off will start things rolling on the opening day. That day will also feature Mutton Bustin’, a carnival, and a wine garden.

The Ranch Rodeo starts the next day, then the Pee Wee and the CPRA Rodeos will come later in the week, along with barrel racing, county team roping, the junior livestock auction, bull riding, a steer saddling contest, and a pig scramble. There will be Arena Golf, a Jr. Commercial Heifer Auction, and a calf scramble. A BBQ cook off will run for the last two days.

Entertainment will include Roger Creager with Jason James, Joe Diffie with Allen Henderson and the Texas Icehouse Band, and Cory Morrow with Story Book Road and Bag of Donuts. Fiesta Sunday will feature Mariachis, Tejano Knights, Grupo SonVacilon, and the Hometown Boys.

Winners in the rodeos and fair will probably want to get their pictures taken with their prizes, ribbons, and animals. These pictures would make interesting city Calendars and pictures for next year’s Galveston's visitor Brochures.

The Fair and Rodeo will be from this Friday, April 21 through Saturday, April 29. Gates will open at 4:00 pm on the first day and close at 11:59 pm on the last. It will be at the Galveston County Fairgrounds, 10 Jack Brooks Road, Hitchcock.
