Galveston Bay Foundation will be holding its Sounds of the Ocean festival in early March. The event has been organized to raise awareness for present and future oceans. All proceeds will go to preventing flooding in Galveston through constructing an ocean trash filter that will halt ocean pollution.
The kid-and-dog friendly event will feature live music by DEM Robert Kuhn, and light snacks. SFO Film will screen an ocean trash film documentary. There will be science talks given by local ocean conservationists and a costume contest featuring a space/ocean theme.
The venue will also have an auction of work created by local artists, and an unveiling of a collaborative art piece. Local artists will be on hand vending their work, and part of the art and beverage sales will go to cleaning Galveston’s beaches.
Eco Workshops will be available for $10 each. They will include making recycled grocery Bags, making a planter using old glass containers, old sheets and old shirts. Guests can win prizes if they win in the Recycling for Ocean Conservation game.
Black T-Shirts sporting the Galveston Trashy People Litter green and red turtle Logo Design will be available for $20 online.
Sounds of the Ocean festival will be from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm, March 7, at the Devil and the Deep Brewery, 2425 Postoffice Street.
