Galveston Arts Center will be presenting a six-week printmaking studio beginning in a few days.
This exploration into traditional and contemporary printmaking will be suitable for both advanced and beginners. Teens from ages 14 to adults are invited to attend.
The sampler class will be taught by Betsy Campbell the owner of Betsy by Design, a local boutique that does custom design and printing. She and Amber Kaiser – a representative of Burning Bones Press – and Marie Leterme from Atelier 1513 in Houston will be covering topics such as using registers, how to create a series, and how to sign and number editions. They will also be talking about screen printing, drypoint etching, Japanese-style woodblock, and relief printmaking.
Guests can have their work done on a Blick 999 Model II Etching press. The press can make prints as large as 17 x 35 inches.
Local Print shop employees and Stationery printers may like to attend, meet potential clients, and bring plenty of Business Cards for possible future business.
The printmaking class will be ongoing on Mondays. Other workshops and classes during that timeframe will be the Polymer Clay Workshop – the Ceramics Studio will be ongoing on Tuesdays, and the self-guided life drawing studio will run throughout the six-week period.
The Printmaking Studio will be Mondays from 5:30 pm until 7:30 pm, from March 11 through April 15, at the Galveston Arts Center, 2127 Strand.
