It will soon be time for FeatherFest. This will be the 16th anniversary for the six-day birding adventure.
In spring, Galveston is a popular stopover for over 200 species of brilliantly colored birds as they migrate northward from South America. FeatherFest is an opportunity for professional and novice nature photographers, casual or avid bird watchers, and people who just want to enjoy the outdoors to get a chance to see some of the birds as they progress up the Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail.
FeatherFest offers nature photography and birding workshops, field trips and tours. Most tours and field trips will be taken by bus, although some will be by boat and a few will be by kayak. Some days, such as the Friday, have over 30 activities scheduled.
For children six years old and up and those new to birding, there will be a special FledglingFest with classroom instruction and events geared especially for the novice bird watchers.
Social events will take place during the evenings. These will include the free ‘Lost Bird Project Film & Talk’ and ‘Raptors Uncorked!’
Pictures taken during FeatherFest will find their way to local Print shops for poster printing and family Calendars, and to Stationery printers for personal stationery.
FeatherFest will be from April 17 through 22 at various times and places around town. Registration will be available during the event at the Island Community Center, 4700 Broadway.
