The 9th Annual Galveston Island Shrimp Festival is coming in a few weeks.
The two-day event will include two cook-offs (amateur and professional), the Gumbo Stroll, a 5K Fun Run, and the Lil’ Shrimp’s Parade.
A VIP Sponsor Party to honor this year’s teams will kick things off with a fried shrimp dinner, live music, and dancing.
The Official Galveston Island Shrimp Festival 5K will begin the morning of the festival at the Seawall and 28th Street.
Vendors will open for business an hour later and the information booth area will open an hour after that. Live music, the Strand Merchant Walk-About, and the public Gumbo Tasting will start at noon. At that time, those who have purchased an official Gumbo Tasting Cup will get the opportunity to enjoy samples of gumbo prepared by the cook-off teams.
Attendees going on the Strand Merchant Walkabout need to get their cards stamped at each place and submit them to get entered into the contest for gift cards from local merchants.
At 3:00pm, the Galveston Shrimp Company Lil’ Shrimps Parade will take to the streets. Local school bands, floats with people throwing beads, local civic, military, and nonprofit walking units accompanied by police and fire vehicles will be participating. Units like these usually get some banner printing done to introduce themselves to the spectators.
The Shrimp Festival will be September 28 and 29 along the Seawall. The Awards Ceremony will take place at 6:00pm in Saengerfest Park.
