Galveston appetites are getting ready for the Bon Temps Rouler Cajun Throwdown coming in late April.
The first evening will be the ‘Cajun Kick-Off Cook-Off’. Teams will prepare and serve their finest Louisiana cuisine to five judges, and any remaining food will go to members of the public. Attendees will also get to eat an endless supply of shrimp. Judging criteria will be taste, hospitality, overall presentation, and appearance. The top prize will be $500, with a second prize of $300 and third prize or $200, plus trophies.
On the Sunday, the event will feature the 12 teams competing in a crawfish cooking contest. The top team chosen by the public will receive the $5,000 grand prize. Other competitions will be the Crawfish Eating Throwdown and Crawfish Racing. Winning teams at events such as this often have pictures taken and sent to local Print shops for poster printing. These are then displayed at the team’s restaurants for advertising purposes.
There will be a carnival for the kids and local vendors. Cajun cuisine food trucks and an oyster bar will have food for purchase.
Entertainment will consist of Frank Foster, Wayne Toups, Jason Cassidy, Jamie Bergeron, Travis Matte, Rickard LeBouef, and Alex Touchet, Curtis Poullard, and Tommy Kib.
The event will be April 26 and 27 at Tin Cups Caddyshack, 9020 Stewart Road. Gates open at 4:00 pm on Friday and close at 11:00 pm. On Saturday, the event will run from 11:00 am until 11:00 pm.
