The 109th Galveston Mardi Gras will be taking over the city for 12 days in mid-February.
The first parade is scheduled for Friday, February 14 with the Party Gras! Procession from 5:00 until 5:3pm. That will end at the George P. Mitchell Mardi Gras Award Presentation at the Tremont House at 2300 Mechanic Street. The Award Honoree Parade will begin at 7:00 pm. That will be followed by the Funky Uptown Umbrella Brigade at 8:30 pm. At 10:00 pm, the Mardi Gras’ Galveston parade will meander through the Strand District.
On Saturday, February 15 at 11:00 am, runners and jaunters will line up for the Jolly Jester Jaunt 5K at 24th and Mechanic streets. Registrants will receive festive T-Shirts sporting the event graphic design, special Mardi Gras-themed gifts, Balcony Party tickets for Friday, free drinks at the balcony party on Friday and the finish line on Saturday, general admission to the entertainment district on Friday and Saturday, and a view of all seven parades.
For those with an interest in poster printing and design, Yaga’s Entertainment, Inc. is holding a poster contest and the winner will receive $1,000. The winning poster will be unveiled at a party at Beerfoot Brewery 28th/ Seawall Blvd. on January 24.
Mardi Gras Galveston will be from February 14th to February 25th at many locations around town.
