Galveston event to bring past to life

The Galveston Island Revue Weekend will be returning this June, resurrecting styles and events from past decades.

The Revue Weekend is the official Kickoff to Summer event of the City of Galveston, and is based on historic Galveston Island events like Splash Day and the Pageant of Pulchritude, which were resurrected as a family-friendly weekend in 2009. Inspired by past beauty pageants dating back over a century, one of the main events will be the Bathing Beauties Contest, with women modelling vintage swimsuits and parasols. There will also be a classic car show, highlighting models from before 1975. The car show will include prizes for Best in Show, People’s Choice, Best Club Participation, and Judge’s Choice.

The weekend will also feature a number of special classes and ticketed events inspired by historic boardwalk culture, including classic cocktail mixing classes, the Seaport Social & Revue Prevue, and a Jazz Brunch hosted by musician Dandy Wellington and his band. The festival area will be filled with other entertainers and guests as well as vendors selected from the Galveston area. Traditional festivals like this often use vintage styles of graphic design, music and clothing to help transport visitors to a different time.

The 2025 edition of the Galveston Island Revue Weekend will take place from June 6 to 8 on Galveston Island.
