A long-running Galveston feast will be returning this May with the goal of supporting a good cause.
Yaga’s Wild Game & BBQ Cook Off will allow home chefs to show off their skills cooking wild game ranging from duck to deer. There will also be categories for brisket, chicken, fajitas, pork spare ribs, and seafood, as well as an open “Chef’s Choice” competition. The event is sanctioned by the International Barbecue Cookers Association and typically sees dozens of teams involved. The weekend will also feature a 5K Fun Run through the Moody Gardens area, open to participants of all ages, and other activities for families such as obstacle courses, live musical performances, and a petting zoo.
The Cook Off will be raising money for the Yaga Children’s Fund, an organization which contributes to a number of children’s charities operating in Galveston County. A Friday Night Fundraiser event will help to increase the funds donated, with events such as a silent auction and recognition of sponsors.
Fundraising events like this often use presentations and brochure printing to help outline the good work being done. The weekend concludes an awards ceremony recognizing the best cooks in the competition.
The 2025 Yaga’s Wild Game & BBQ Cook-Off will take place at the Moody Gardens Resort and Hotel on Galveston Island on May 9 and 10.
